About

HeadshotI put my heart and soul into every painting I create; this more than anything is the basis of my work. I have always preferred portraiture as an art form, for its vitality and uniquely personal quality. To me, light and color are the bedrocks of a portrait and powerful means to convey mood, emotion, and atmosphere.

I first studied drawing and art history while earning a BA in French at Yale. My subsequent time at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, Connecticut involved extensive study of the human form in oil painting, along with experimentation with color and light. Several years were spent refining my painting technique and style at the Arlington Artists Alliance. I have also had the unique opportunity to study painting and the painting process at the Atelier of Gabi Schreiner in Stuttgart, Germany, experimenting with pure pigments and oils to create my own colors. Currently I spend time under the tutelage of John Blee at the Art League in Alexandria, Virginia.

My artwork has sold in the United States and Europe.
